Travel from work site to work site
Travel from job site to job site is compensable (meaning you should receive compensation for this travel) and must be counted as hours worked. For example, if an employee performs construction work on one job site and then travels to a second job site in the same workday, then the employee should be compensated for this travel.
Travel from home to regular work site
Travel from home to work before the beginning of the workday and from work to home at the end of the workday is not compensable since this is ordinary home-to-work travel.
Travel from home to one day assignment in another city before returning in the same day
Travel from home to a special one day assignment in another city is work time. The employee should be paid for all travel time to the special one day assignment and then from the assignment until the employee returns home. However, the employer may deduct time that the employee would normally spend commuting to the regular work site.
Travel away from home
If an employee does not return home at the end of the day, then this is considered travel away from home. Travel away from home is work time.
